These adorable and affectionate companions require special care during their early stages of life to ensure they grow into happy and healthy adult dogs.

In this article, we’ll provide a comprehensive guide on how to take care of the newest member of your family, covering everything from nutrition and exercise to socialization and grooming. By following these tips, you can create a nurturing environment and build a strong bond with your furry friend.

Puppy-Proof Your Home:

This is one of the first things you need to do BEFORE bringing your puppy home!

To ensure your living space is safe and free from potential hazards – remove toxic plants, secure loose electrical cords, and block off areas that are off-limits to the puppy. Provide a cozy and comfortable crate or bed where your puppy can rest, and designate an appropriate space for their food and water bowls.

Be prepared for your Cavoodle to stay in puppy mode for about 2 years. I didn’t seem to learn that leaving work shoes on the ground was not a good move, she’d always chew shoes!!

Establish a Routine:

Setting up a consistent routine is essential for your Cavoodle puppy’s well-being. Establish regular feeding times, potty breaks, exercise sessions, and playtime. Puppies thrive on predictability, and a structured routine helps them feel secure and understand what is expected of them.

When separated from their family, some puppies can experience great anxiety. Polly did and it was really hard for us to hear her cry in the first week. She eventually settled down and we found turning on music at a low volume helped. Be prepared for this possibility!

Proper Nutrition:

Feed your Cavoodle puppy a high-quality, balanced diet that meets their specific nutritional needs. Consult with your vet to determine the appropriate type and amount of food for your puppy based on their age, size, and activity level. Remember to provide fresh water at all times and avoid feeding them human foods that may be harmful to their health.

Socialization and Training:

Socialization is crucial for Cavoodle puppies crucial for full grown cavoodle puppies into well-adjusted and confident adult dogs. Expose your puppy to a variety of people, animals, and environments from a young age. Enroll them in puppy classes or engage in positive reinforcement training methods to establish basic obedience and good behavior. Early socialization and training lay the foundation for a well-behaved and happy Cavoodle.

Regular Exercise:

Even though Cavoodle puppies have moderate exercise needs, regular physical activity is still important for their overall well-being. Take your puppy for short walks, engage in play sessions, and provide cavoodle mentally stimulating toys. However, it’s important to avoid over-exercising young puppies to prevent strain on their developing bones and joints.

Grooming and Health Care:

Cavoodle puppies have a soft and curly coat that requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and tangle-free. Brush your puppy’s coat several times a week to prevent matting and check their ears regularly for signs of infection. Schedule regular vet check-ups to ensure your puppy’s health, and keep up with vaccinations, deworming, and flea/tick prevention treatments.

Shower Them with Love and Affection:

Cavoodle’s are such affectionate puppies and they thrive on love and attention. Spend quality time bonding with your puppy through cuddles, gentle play, and positive reinforcement. Offer plenty of praise, rewards, and encouragement to reinforce good behavior and build a strong, trusting relationship.

Caring for a Cavoodle puppy requires dedication, patience, and love. By providing a safe and nurturing environment, establishing a routine, ensuring proper nutrition, prioritizing socialization and training, engaging in regular exercise, and cavoodle high maintenanceĀ their grooming and health care needs, you can set your Cavoodle puppy up for a happy and healthy cavoodle life expectancy.
